The Inland 20 national calendar offers four regattas in 2019, from the Delaware seashore to the lakes of Indiana and Ohio.
Nationals this year will be hosted at Lake Wawasee, Indiana, home to 11 I20s and the class commodore and longtime I20 cheerleader, Kenny Bolles. The three-day event is scheduled for Sept. 13, 14 and 15.
The lake offers a terrific club house with one lift and a pretty, shaded setting.
“On the club grounds we have cubby housing that people used last time (2017), said Kenny Bolles. “We have others (housing) all around the lake.”
A new race has been organized for Aug. 17-18 in Delaware’s Rehoboth Bay. The protected estuary at Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association, offers flat water and consistent ocean breezes throughout August, a time when most inland waters suffer doldrums. The race is scheduled for August 17-18, and will be the first Inland 20 regatta on saltwater in at least 10 years. A notice of race is posted here.
The Inland 20 season begins on the Potomac River April 27-28 in Washington DC with the Cherry Blossom Regatta, now in its fourth year.
Organizer Stew Harris introduced beautiful custom awards last year featuring carved I20 hulls mounted at a heel on an engraved plaque, all made of cherry wood (naturally.) Notice of Race was just published here.
The Spring Regatta at Indian Lake was scheduled for June 29-30. The fleet at Indian has seen an influx of new boats. Fleet captain Joe Ewing said he anticipates several new local skippers at his race this year.
